Bad Bugs
A musically theatrical intervention on biodiversity
Insects have a dubious reputation among humans. They sting and bite, crawl into nooks and crannies and, according to popular opinion, are simply disgusting with their spindly legs, antennae and compound eyes.
Yet many insects are extremely useful and essential for maintaining ecological balance. In this production, the “Bad Bugs” want to take a stand against their impending demise. With their band of the same name, they travel the country fighting against the destruction of their habitat with a hard shell but a soft core—veritably tough on the outside, soft on the inside. They demand nothing less than our solidarity in the fight against the destruction of their atural habitat and encourage the audience to play an active role in creating a diverse, lively and liveable environment in which humans and nimals can feel equally at home.
A coproduction with Theater Bonn and Beethovenfest Bonn.
Insects playing a 50-minute rock concert—for the preservation and promotion of natural sites: “Bad Bugs” is a performance that is just as green as it is forward-looking which combines environmental awareness with powerful music and interactive theatre.
With impressive technology—including speakers, synthesisers, electric guitars, MPCs and even a jackhammer—the eight bugs vent their displeasure and demand change. And this change is also reflected in the scenic design, with the space undergoing several transformations until the moment when colourful, self-designed beetles gradually come together in a kind of exhibition. These creepy-crawlies were created in collaboration with children from several schools in Bonn.
An energetic and enlightening outdoor performance for everyone aged 6 and over—an experience that brings environmental awareness to the stage with a bang! Jury Statement Westwind Festival
